What do I do if passengers directly reach out to me to fly or drive them?

If a returning passenger directly reaches out to you and asks for your help in flying or driving them again, please re-direct that passenger to our office. We advise all passengers (new and returning) that they cannot reach out to their volunteers directly. All trip requests and inquiries must be submitted to our office, and the coordinators will handle the requested follow-up on behalf of the passengers.

Why does this policy exist?

It may put the volunteer in a difficult position to turn down a direct request from a passenger. We know that volunteers want to help, and it can be tough and awkward to say "no". Therefore, it is best for AFW to mediate these requests and offers so that both passengers and volunteers are served to the best of our ability. Even if you're OK with a passenger reaching out to you directly, it isn't a good precedent to set as the passenger may also reach out to other volunteers.

What if I like flying or driving a particular passenger?

You can advise the passengers to reach out to AFW with their next trip requests. The coordinators will reach out to you to check on your availability. If you can fly or drive, we can assign you the trips.

What if a passenger continues to reach out to me directly?

If that is the case, please let us know immediately so that we can follow up with the passenger.
