As a volunteer Command Pilot for Angel Flight West, your commitment to safety is the foundation of every mission you fly. One of the most effective ways to support sound aeronautical decision-making is by establishing and adhering to personal minimums—your self-defined limits for weather, flight conditions, and personal readiness. These limits are best determined well in advance, so you're not forced to make critical decisions with clouded judgment. Writing your personal minimums down creates a clear contract with yourself, your passengers, and your family, helping you avoid the temptation to “mentally negotiate” into unsafe situations. The AOPA Air Safety Institute offers great Personal Minimums Contracts as valuable tools to guide this process. We encourage you to complete them thoughtfully, review with a CFI, update it regularly, and keep a copy in your flight bag for quick reference.
