You might be surprised to learn that approximately 80% of people who apply for charitable aviation do not meet our criteria. This video reviews the criteria that we use to qualify passengers to fly with us, and the process for verifying those qualifications. We screen passengers very thoroughly to ensure that they not only meet our physical and mental qualifications, but that their financial need warrants the generous donation you are making in conducting the flight.
In addition, we brief passengers thoroughly on what to expect, focusing on the specifics of general aviation travel. Passengers are made aware of the importance of providing accurate weights, and traveling light with baggage that’s suitable for GA aircraft. We also work with the passenger to make sure they have a viable backup plan in case cancellation is necessary.
Financial Need Requirements
Financial need requirements are not strictly defined. We don’t require passengers to provide financial documentation. We discuss the passenger’s financial situation with them or with their healthcare advocate to make sure their situation warrants a donated flight. Difficult healthcare challenges can be a financial burden on even previously well-off families. Some passengers fly with us for other reasons, for example, if they are immunocompromised.
If you encounter a passenger whom you feel does not meet these general guidelines, please let the coordination team know and they will investigate further.
