When you find a great volunteer opportunity, you’ll make a request through our flight coordination system. This topic explains how to do that, and provides some tips for making a flight or a driving trip more convenient for you.
Mission Assistants. When you indicate in the request form that you are interested in a Mission Assistant, you are indicating that you would like us to try to match you with another volunteer who is interested in volunteering as a mission assistant. If you already have someone flying right seat, like a family member, airplane partner, or friend, you don’t need to check this box.
When you check the box for a Mission Assistant, volunteers in your area will receive an email indicating that you are interested in bringing a Mission Assistant. They may contact you, letting you know that they are available. While we encourage the use of Mission Assistants, you are not required or obliged to do so. We recognize that in many cases, it’s not possible due to weight or space limitations.
Backup pilots. You may check the Backup Pilot wanted box if you are concerned that weather may be an issue. While the coordination team won’t always be able to find a backup for you, it is good information to have in the system.
