Our success depends on a committed team of individuals working together toward one common goal: helping passengers or others in need. In this video, we introduce you to the roles and responsibilities of the various people you will be working with regularly as a volunteer:
- Passengers
- Requesters
- Coordinators
You may also interact with:
Mission Assistants. Mission assistants fly along on an air leg and help manage the passengers so the pilot can focus on flying. Mission assistants are not required. Volunteers serving as a mission assistant may also be a pilot, but need not be. In fact, it’s a great way to help pilots who are working to qualify as a Command Pilot get involved with Angel Flight Wests. You can also bring along your own mission assistant, for example, a family member, partner in your airplane, friend, or even a CFI. A mission assistant must also be a member of the organization, but need not have Command Pilot status.
Wing Leaders. Wing leaders are volunteers who coordinate local efforts in your area. They may reach out to welcome you as a new volunteer, and are a great resource for you when you have questions about how to get started. Wing leaders may also lead a team of volunteers who work on the ground, for example, visting healthcare facilities to spread the word about Angel Flight West, or recruiting new volunteers.
Earth Angel. Earth Angels provide ground transportation from the airport to the passenger’s medical facility or lodging and back. Earth Angels play a vital role in Angel Flight West‘s service, as the cost of ground transportation is often a serious burden for our passengers.
