Pilot Provider Outreach Sample Letter

Hello Marissa,

I’m a volunteer pilot based here in Goodyear, AZ and I fly missions for Angel Flight West.  If you’re not familiar with our organization, we are a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization that arranges free, non-emergency air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions and other compelling needs.  Our network of 2000+ pilots throughout the 13 western states donate their aircraft, piloting skills, and all flying costs to help families in need, enabling them to receive vital treatment that might otherwise be inaccessible because of financial, medical or geographic limitations.  We also work with airline partners for trips from Alaska and Hawaii.

This week I will be participating in the transportation of two of your patients from central and northern California to Goodyear and back home again—at no cost to either.  Like the vast majority of the passengers I fly, neither of these two families was familiar with Angel Flight West until they learned of us from other CTCA patients.

I was hoping you might be able to assist or refer me to a member of the Phoenix CTCA staff to whom I can speak regarding how we might better inform your patients about our service.  Air travel can help ease the stress and anxiety that accompany a health care crisis.  Private air travel can be faster, more convenient than a long drive and safer than a commercial flight during the on-going Covid-19 pandemic.  We can sometimes reduce or eliminate lodging expenses by getting patients to treatment and home again in the same day.  Quicker trips can mean less of a burden on family members, less time off work and more time with family.  And we can save individuals requiring regular but intermittent treatments thousands of dollars in travel expenses.

I’m certain there are other CTCA patients who could benefit from our services--if only they knew about us.

I would very much appreciate the opportunity to speak with you further about how, working together, we can improve the lives of your patients and their families.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Dennis M. Phelan
